MGIMO is Russia’s major think tank on international relations and political science with a significant potential in the field of comparative and international law, world economy and international economic relations, public administration, energy diplomacy, ecology and environmental studies, management and transnational business, linguistics, sociology, public relations, culture and philosophy.

MGIMO researchers work actively on a wide range of issues in the sphere of social sciences — more than 500 monographs, manuals and scientific papers as well as over 1000 articles are published annually.

The main feature of all the research done by MGIMO professors and experts is an international dimension.

There are 16 MGIMO research centres, some of them operate within the Institute for International Studies.

ASEAN Centre’s mission is to spread information about the ASEAN-Russia dialogue partnership, to facilitate development of economic linkages, cultural, scientific and educational exchanges as well as people-to-people contacts between Russia and the ASEAN member countries.

Centre for Military and Political Studies deals with the issues of domestic and international development, military trends, armaments and military equipment, defense industry, military cooperation and state security.

Centre for Comprehensive Chinese Studies and Regional Projects is engaged in a comprehensive study of China and Chinese civilization, including its domestic and foreign policies, economics, progress and history, culture and ideology, as well as various forms of its interaction within the region.

Centre for International Information Security, Science and Technology Policy conducts monitoring for practical application of trends, characteristics and directions of the information security phenomenon’s evolution in modern world politics.

The Centre for Digital Economy and Financial Innovation is engaged in a comprehensive study of the legal and economic aspects of the development and use in the public and private sector of such new technologies as blockchain, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, robotics, etc.

MGIMO experts contribute to various state institutions of Russia: the Presidential Administration, the Government, the Council of Federation and the State Duma, the Security Council and the Ministry of Defense, the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

MGIMO annually welcomes more than 700 students from all over the world at the Churkin Moscow International Model United Nations (C-MIMUN), one of the oldest and most authoritative simulations of the UN. MGIMO also hosts Models of the European Union, BRICS, the G20, OPEC, etc.

MGIMO is the founding member of the Russian International Studies Association and actively contributes to the Russian Political Science Association, the United Nations Association of Russia, a number of Russian foundations and non-governmental organizations, as well as to leading global think tanks.

MGIMO grants honorary doctorate degrees to prominent foreign politicians, public experts, diplomats, scholars, working in the field of international relations and foreign policy. By 2018 MGIMO Doctor Honoris Causa has been granted to 63 people among whom are President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of France (1995–2007) Jacques Chirac, President of France (2007–2012) Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the European Commission (1999–2004) Romano Prodi, President of the French Institute of International Affairs Thierry de Montbrial, Prince of Monaco Albert II, President of Chile (2014–2018) Veronica Michelle Bachelet Jeria.

Publications

MGIMO professors and faculty members, working in 70 university departments, have published hundreds of study manuals and thousands of publications used in the educational process of numerous universities.

MGIMO-University publishing house offers books of more than 300 headings. We publish various text-books on international economic relations, politology, international law, business administration, insurance and language study by prominent Russian specialists.
