Tashkent

The idea of launching a MGIMO branch in Tashkent was introduced for the first time in early 2018 during a conversation between MGIMO’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov and the Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) Abdubajar Abduvakhitov. In the Autumn of that year, the sides took concrete steps towards implementing this new initiative.

October 19th, 2018, as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Tashkent, an intergovernmental Agreement was signed on the establishment of branches of Russian higher educational institutions in the Republic of Uzbekistan. On that same day, an Agreement between UWED and MGIMO on the creation of a branch of MGIMO University in Uzbekistan was signed by the Rectors. September 1st, 2019, MGIMO launched its educational programs in Tashkent.

MGIMO-Tashkent is the University’s first campus abroad. It currently offers 6 undergraduate and postgraduate programs that are unique in Uzbekistan. The programs are taught by leading MGIMO professors; the best applicants receive study grants, languages are taught using the original MGIMO methods and students can enjoy a state-of-the-art campus experience. Prospective students can sign up for preparatory courses.

Education is arranged on a modular basis (with modules lasting on average 2-3 weeks) and students spending from one semester /MA students/ to three semesters /BA students/ in Moscow.
