In 2009 he defended his thesis on Comparative Characteristics of Integration in East Asia and Europe (political analysis), and received his Ph.D. in Political Science at MGIMO. In 2013, he was granted the scientific degree of Associate Professor. He is a member of MGIMO Academic Board, and the joint editors’ office of MGIMO-University scientific journals.
In 2001–2005 Dr. Baykov studied at MGIMO School of International Relations and received his BA degree, specializing in Asian countries. In 2007, he received his MA with honors in International Relations, specializing in World Politics.
From March 2012 till January 2016 he was the Head of the MGIMO Masters Programmes Department. Since February 2016 he has been working as the Vice-Rector for Masters and International Programmes. Since 2011 Dr. Baykov has been Director of Academic Educational Forum on International Relations. In 2013, he was elected to the Council for professional and higher education and in 2014, he was elected member of the Board.
In 2007–2008 he worked as a political commentator at the International department of RIA Novosti News Agency. In 2008 he was a visiting scholar at John Washington University (USA). Later, he gave lectures at Freie Universitaet Berlin (2011) and Sciences Po in Paris (2013). Also, Dr. Baykov is a member of the US International Studies Association.
Honors and Awards
- Annual medal of Russian Academy of Science for the best scientific work of young scientists (2013) in the World Economy and International Relations category. It was awarded for the monograph Comparative Integration. Practice and Models of Integration in Europe and Pacific Asia (Moscow: Aspect Press, 2012. 256 p.);
- Winner of 2013 Robert Donaldson Award, International Studies Association, USA, for the best scientific paper on Russia and the post-Soviet space;
- Second degree prize of the Russian Association of Political Science (2013) in the Best Educational and Methodical Work category for being editor and co-author of the textbook Megatrends: Main Trajectories of the World Order Evolution in the 21st Century;
- First degree of the Russian Association of Political Science (2011) in the Best Educational Work category for being a co-author of the textbook Modern World Politics;
- Letter of acknowledgement of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2014).
Dr. Baykov speaks English, German, French, and Mongolian.
Areas of Research Interest
Integration trends in world politics; international relations in East Asia; foreign policy of the post-Soviet countries; relations between the state and business structures, political anthropology.
Dr. Baykov is the author of one monograph, 41 scientific papers, 29 publications in journals included in Scopus; co-author of three monographs, more than 10 textbooks and study guides, scientific editor of more than five scientific research papers.
He is married and is a father of three.
