
Dr. Nikolay Yu. Kaveshnikov also holds an office of leading research fellow at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Science. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Science in 2006 in the Institute of Europe. Since 2012 he holds a Jean Monnet Chair. He is expert of the Russian International Affairs Council.
His research interests include:
- institutional development of the European Union
- EU energy policy,
- EU external relations and EU-Russia relations,
- institutional and political aspects of the development of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Dr. Kaveshnikov is author of more than 160 publications including articles in international journals like European Security, Journal of Communist Studies and Transition Politics, European University Institute Working Papers and leading Russian journals like Mirovaia ekonomika & mejdunarodnye otnoshenia, Mejdunarodnaia jizn, Mejdunarodnye protsessy, Sovremennaya Evropa, etc.
He published a book Transformation of the Institutional Structure of the European Union (2010, in Russian). He is co-editor of the second edition of the textbook European Integration (2016, in Russian) which is the first comprehensive Russian textbook on European integration for students in international relations, economics and regional studies. With Yuri Matveevsky he co-authored the textbook European Union: history, institutions, policies (2017, in Russian).
His recent publications include chapter in The EU Global Strategy: Implications for Russia (Institute of Europe RAS & Egmont Institute, 2017) and chapter «Forecasting Developments for the European Union» in RIAC forecast (2019).
