October 3rd, Russian President Vladimir Putin participated in the plenary session «The World Order seen from the East» of the XVI annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi.
The guests of honor at the event included the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the President of Kazakhstan Kassim-Jomart Tokaev, King Abdullah II of Jordan and the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that «Today is MGIMO’s day at Valdai. Presidents I. G. Aliyev and K.-J. Tokaev are graduates of MGIMO, while the King of Jordan and the President of the Philippines are Honorary Doctors of MGIMO. » The President remarked that the meeting is devoted to diplomatic questions and that experienced diplomats can be found both on the podium and in the hallways. Vladimir Putin also underlined the fact that MGIMO remains to this day the main forge of diplomatic staff.
