On March 3rd, the Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Kanseituly Tuimebayev visited MGIMO University.
The guests were welcomed by the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the Vice-Rector for Students’ Development and International Affairs Stanislav Surovtsev, and the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev.
The delegation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was led by Rector Tuimebayev. He was accompanied by the Internationalization and Recruitment Office Director Talgat Nurgozhin.
During their meeting, Anatoly Torkunov talked about traditionally close ties with Kazakh universities, many of which have signed cooperation agreements with MGIMO University. For instance, the relations between MGIMO University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University started in 2011 within the framework of CIS Network University. In the same year, first students from the Kazakh university were enrolled in the dual degree diploma programs at MGIMO University. Furthermore, the Rector noted that today 123 students from Kazakhstan are studying at the University, with the Kazakh Student Club, the biggest international fraternity of the University, actively participating in various events and student activities.
At the meeting, the parties agreed to jointly hold a Russian-Kazakh academic and practical conference devoted to modern international relations and diplomacy and to broaden interaction between the universities, promoting academic and cultural exchanges.
Following the dialogue, Anatoly Torkunov was awarded the Birlik (“Unity”) Medal and the 25 years of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan Anniversary Medal. The Birlik Medal is the highest mark of public recognition and encouragement of Kazakh and foreign citizens, organizations and enterprises, civil society institutions for their merits in ensuring the unity and stability, socio-economic and social development of Kazakhstan. The 25 years of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan Anniversary Medal was created to mark the 25th anniversary of the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan and to praise the citizens of Kazakhstan and other countries who have made a significant contribution to strengthening social harmony in the country, ensuring the unity of the people of Kazakhstan.
As part of the visit, Egor Andreev showed the guests from Kazakhstan the Gallery of MGIMO Honorary Doctorates, the University’s Museum and the MGIMO Rare Books Museum. The MGIMO Alumni Association prepared meaningful memorable gifts for the delegation from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
