Hungarian Minister of Justice Laszlo Trocsanyi Talks at MGIMO

May 18th, MGIMO welcomed the Minister of Justice of Hungary Laszlo Trocsanyi, who delivered a lecture to students of the University on the EU’s migration policy, the challenges it faces and the ways to overcome them.

The guest of honor was introduced to the audience by the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev, who also acted as moderator of the meeting.

The guest’s speech was dedicated to the migration crisis in the European Union. The Minister characterized the main migration flows, analyzed the main problems resulting from them and explained the difference between the concepts of «refugee» and «migrant». Laszlo Trocsanyi also emphasized the need to change the legislative framework of the EU concerning the status of refugee and migrant and explored the different ways of overcoming the crisis, using the example of Hungary.

At the end of his speech, the guest took questions from the audience. The event was also attended by the Ambassador of Hungary to Russia, Janos Balla (MGIMO graduate 1982), representatives of the embassy, and staff of the Hungarian Ministry of Justice.
