SPIEF 2018- Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron Meet with Trianon Dialogue Participants

May 24th-26th, within the framework of French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to Russia, a number of events related the Trianon Dialogue unfolded.

On the 24th in the evening, the co-chairs of the Trianon Dialogue, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and Ambassador Pierre Morel participated in a discussion between the French and Russian Presidents, and in the press conference that followed. Speaking to journalists, Vladimir Putin remarked that the Trianon Dialogue initiative of a Russian-French forum of civil societies had started to be implemented. This was confirmed by Emmanuel Macron, who stated that the social forum created in Versailles is actively functioning today.

On May 25th, the Coordinating Council of the Trianon Dialogue held a meeting aimed at determining the main future directions for the bilateral dialogue and at presenting the results of its work over the past six months. Sociologists presented the findings of a study on public sentiment, and the digital platform supporting the Forum was explained. Meeting participants mulled over plans for the upcoming year and the co-chairs Anatoly Torkunov and Pierre Morel presented the central events of the program for 2019.

The meeting was followed with a session of the Trianon Dialogue dedicated to problems of the «City of the Future» during which questions of urban development, territorial planning and the use of new technologies were discussed.

The central event of SPIEF-2108 was the meeting Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron had with French and Russian business circles and the Coordinating Council of the Trianon Dialogue. The president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Aleksander Shokhin, remarked that the Trianon initiative includes economic projects, which aim at developing trade relations. At the end of the meeting, the members of the Coordination Council of the Trianon Dialogue exchanged a few words with the Russian and French Presidents and made a joint photo.
