MGIMO Contributes to Third Ecological Week

October 18th-22nd, the Ecological Chamber of Russia organized the Third Ecological Week in the center of Moscow by the Kremlin. MGIMO’s Department of Ecology and Natural Resources Studies actively participated in the event.

On the first day, lectures were delivered and expositions were held in tents on Manege Square. One of the sessions organized by MGIMO was dedicated to project management activities in the sphere of alternative energy and counted a number of prestigious speakers from business and academia. Students and faculty members of the University also made presentations about the use of alternative fuels for cars. The session attracted over a hundred guests. During the following section on Youth Initiatives, MGIMO Professor Natalia Ryazanova gave a talk on «UN Sustainable Development Goals: the Regional Dimension».

October 19th, a session involving representatives of legislative and executive authorities and devoted to involving youth in Russia’s environmental strategy took place. Deputies of the State Duma, members of environmental commissions and of youth committees participated in the discussions, which were moderated by Natalia Ryazanova.

October 20th, guests mulled over the environmental activities of the United Nations and the sustainable development goals, assessing how effective the UN system has been at solving global ecological problems. Researchers and students presented case studies relating to sustainable development in various countries, aiming to increase awareness about the initiatives being adopted by the international community.
