Ambassador of Indonesia Comes to MGIMO for Farewell Meeting

July 8th, MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov received the Ambassador of Indonesia to Russia, Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi, who has completed his mission and will shortly be returning to his homeland.

The Rector thanked the Ambassador for his willingness to expand friendly relations with the University during his four years in Moscow, for initiating many different educational and cultural events at MGIMO including lectures, seminars, artistic expositions and for involving in them prominent diplomats, experts and representatives of leading universities in Indonesia.

On his side, M.Supriyadi remarked that the ASEAN Center was a reliable and dynamic partner for the embassy and that one of the highlights of this cooperation was the February Russian-Indonesian round table which marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia.

The parties also discussed different projects to further develop bilateral cooperation, including the possibility of creating short-term retraining programs at MGIMO for young Indonesian and other ASEAN country diplomats. The Rector and the Ambassador also discussed the training of Indonesian students at the University.

Among those attending the meeting were the University’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs A.Malgin, the Director of the ASEAN Center V.Sumsky and Indonesian diplomats.

With a last farewell, the Ambassador expressed an interest in maintaining close ties with Russia and MGIMO, and was invited to return as a guest to MGIMO in the future.
