Chairman of Austrian National Council at MGIMO

December 6th, a delegation from Austria led by the Chairman of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, came to MGIMO.

The guests were greeted by the University’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin, the Vice-Rector for Economic Matters Natalia Kuzmina, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and members of the faculty. The visiting delegation also comprised the Austrian Ambassador to Russia, Johannes Aigner, the Secretary General of the Parliament Harald Dossi, an Advisor to the Chairman of the National Council and a Minister of the Austrian Embassy in Russia.

The sides discussed cooperation in higher education and considered the opportunities to expand the partnership between Russian and Austrian universities, including the creation of dual MA programs.

After the meeting, Wolfgang Sobotka gave a talk to MGIMO students on the different social and economic challenges countries face today. The guest of honor also responded to questions from the audience about global political issues, Austria’s agenda during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the security and economic problems Austria, Europe and Russia are confronted with.
