October 7th, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Russia Rodrigo Baena Soares visited MGIMO for the first time.
The Ambassador and diplomats from the Brazilian Embassy were welcomed by the Rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov, the Vice-Rector for Students’ Development and International Affairs Stanislav Surovtsev and the Head of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Russia Boris Martynov. The parties discussed various areas of cooperation related to academic mobility, exchange programmes with MGIMO partner universities, research, cultural, creative and international aspects of interaction between the two countries.
Anatoly Torkunov proposed to organize together with the Embassy several meetings with MGIMO students and a series of lectures by professors, who are native speakers of Portuguese, for better language and communication practice.
Later, the Ambassador invited Rector Torkunov to celebrate the Independence Day of Brazil in September 2022. The parties also agreed to hold a series of events devoted to the relations between Russia and Brazil at MGIMO in May.
