March 14th, the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan came to MGIMO for a solemn ceremony during which he was awarded the Honorary Doctorate Diploma of MGIMO University.
In his welcome words, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov related the history of relations between Armenia and Russia, spoke of the importance of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages, which marked the beginning of Oriental Studies in Russia.
In following, the Rector gave Serzh Sargsyan the Honorary Doctorate Diploma of MGIMO for his efforts to strengthen peace and international security as well as for his contribution to developing friendly relations between Russia and Armenia.
In accordance with the established tradition, the President next gave a lecture to students and faculty members dedicated to Armenia’s foreign policy initiatives, its economic priorities and its relations with Russia. After the ceremony, Serzh Sargsyan met with members of MGIMO’s Armenian Club.
The event was attended by Armenian Foreign Minister and MGIMO alumni Edward Nalbandian and representatives of the Armenian Embassy.
