First meeting of Russian Committee dedicated to United Nations 75th Anniversary Celebrations

April 12th, members of the Russian Committee devoted to celebrating the 75th anniversary of the United Nations gathered for their first meeting at MGIMO. The committee comprises diplomats, public figures, journalists, scientists and others. The work of the committee is coordinated by the United Nations Association of Russia, which is chaired by the Rector of MGIMO University Anatoly Torkunov.

In his welcome speech, Anatoly Torkunov emphasized the importance of the United Nations, which for almost 75 years has been at the centre of the regulation of international relations and the coordination of world politics. This anniversary is a unique opportunity to remind the general population about the role played by this organization and the legitimacy of its activities.

The Director of the UN Information Center in Moscow, Vladimir Kuznetsov, confirmed that all the different UN structures in Russia were actively getting ready for the anniversary events, underlining the contribution of the Russian regions to the preparations.

During the meeting, members of the Russian Committee for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the UN discussed the events on the agenda, including the Moscow International Model UN to be held in April, a number of regional models being set up and plans to create a report on the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Russian regions. Photo exhibitions, international conferences and round tables will be organized in Russia and abroad.
