September 24th, MGIMO hosted a Russian-Japanese Youth Forum, which attracted a hundred Russian participants and fifty representatives of Japan. The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Alexander Bugayev and MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Educational Work, Igor Loginov.
Igor Loginov greeted the guests and spoke about MGIMO’s main educational programs, its international outlook, plans for future development as well as its different initiatives to develop youth cooperation. Alexander Bugayev spoke about youth cooperation in Russian-Japanese relations and noted that the number of students attending this event reflected the growing interest in bilateral relations.
The Director of the Japan-Russia Youth Exchange Center Yasushige Okimoto confirmed the fact that seven thousand young people had already participated in Russian-Japanese events and that this year being the Year of Russia in Japan and vice-versa, bilateral relations were expected to develop quickly.
The event gathered representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry, students specializing in the Japanese language and members of the University’s faculty. The Russian-Japanese Youth Forum will continue its work until the 29th of September, with a myriad of events organized in Moscow, Ryazan and Ulyanovsk.
