October 2nd, the «Russian Energy Week» (REW) International Forum started in Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a speech at the plenary meeting of REW on the «Energy Partnership for Sustainable Growth». This year, the event gathered ten and a half thousand people and over 200 companies from 80 countries worldwide. The Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for preparing and carrying out Russian Energy Week.
The Director of MGIMO’s International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy Valery Salygin, a member of the REW Organizing Committee, spoke at a number of key sessions. Among those participating in Russian Energy Week, there were professors, experts, the most promising graduate and undergraduate students of MGIMO and MIEP, and representatives of the student clubs «Global Energy Policy», «the Arctic», and the Innovations Club.
The goal of the international forum is to demonstrate the prospects of the Russian fuel and energy industry, to unlock the potential of international cooperation in energy, and to review the main challenges affecting the energy sector in the economy.
MGIMO and MIEP contributed to several main events on the first day, including: «Global Energy — New Alliances», «Towards Leadership in the Global Energy Mix: Priorities of the Gas Industry», «Digital Transformation Cannot be Stopped», «Nuclear Energy as an Integral Element of the Sustainable Development Agenda»," Global Challenges and Trends in Renewable Energy Development"," "The Development of Global Energy and the Future of Coal","Lawmaking in the Fuel and Energy Sector".
