October 17th, the 18th Russian-Chinese Conference on International Problems organized by MGIMO’s Center for East Asian and SCO Studies and the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) was held at the University. The event was attended by a delegation of Chinese academics led by the President of CIIS, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong.
The participants were greeted by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Research, Evgeny Kozhokin and by Qi Zhenhong. The conference revolved around the discussion of four main topics: 1) Relations between great powers and recent changes in the international situation; 2) US strategy in the Indo-Pacific region; 3) Russian-Chinese cooperation in Central Asia and Afghanistan; 4) The Russian take on China-US relations and the Chinese perception of Russian-American relations.
Presentations were made by leading MGIMO and CIIS experts as well as by ambassadors from both countries. After the conference, the parties agreed to hold the 19th conference in 2019 in China and to expand cooperation in research between the two universities.
