MGIMO Welcomes Jean-Pierre Raffarin

28 February 2017

February 28th, a French delegation led by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Jean-Pierre Raffarin came to MGIMO to meet with the University’s management and students.

The visiting delegation also included the French Senator Josette Durrieu and the French Ambassador to Russia, Jean-Maurice Ripert. The guests were greeted by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin, the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International programs Andrey Baykov, the Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin and the Head of the French Department Mikhail Ogorodov.

After the meeting with MGIMO management, Jean-Pierre Raffarin gave a lecture to an audience of students and faculty members. The French politician underlined the necessity to improve relations with Russia and to implement a common security strategy in Eurasia, noting that «the world needs for France and Russia to be friends.» Differences of opinion regarding Ukraine and Syria should not prevent France and Russia from cooperating in other areas. The speaker also spoke about the changes brought about by Brexit and the new US administration. Upon completion of the lecture, the guest took questions from the audience.
