Ambassador of Portugal Comes to MGIMO

February 22nd, MGIMO welcomed the Ambassador of Portugal to Russia Paulo Vizeu Pinheiro.

The guest was received by the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev, who told the Ambassador about MGIMO’s cooperation with universities in Portugal. Egor Andreev described the different student exchange programs with Portuguese universities, the long-running tradition of teaching Portuguese at the University (with a hundred students studying it today), and the many events MGIMO has organized with the participation of Portuguese public figures, civil servants and academics.

Paulo Vizeu Pinheiro remarked that Portuguese is the fifth language on the planet based on the number of speakers and promised to help MGIMO develop academic ties with Portuguese universities, particularly the Nova School of Business and Economics.

The Ambassador also gave a talk to an audience of students and faculty members of the University, during which he spoke about his diplomatic career, the evolution of bilateral relations between Portugal and Russia and the history and traditions of his country.
