8 October 2016

October 5th, as part of their visit to the UK, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and the Director of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy (MIEP) Valery Salygin met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford and a MGIMO honorary doctor, Louise Richardson. The meeting was attended by the Russian Ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko.

The parties talked over possible pathways for collaboration between MGIMO, MIEP and the University of Oxford. Anatoly Torkunov reviewed the prospects for cooperation in research and education and took note of the past success of the existing partnership between MGIMO and Oxford University within the framework of the consortium of British, American, German and Russian Universities. The Rector suggested the following areas of collaboration: joint summer school, research and exchange programs for students and faculty members, dual master's degree programs in "International Relations", "Area Studies ", and "Political Science".

Valery Salygin shared with Dr Richardson MIEP's experience in implementing international MBA and Masters programs in cooperation with top universities worldwide, which could serve as a foundation for joint projects with the University of Oxford. Both sides underscored the importance of reinforcing cooperation in education, and tentatively agreed to design joint masters in such fields as Global Management, Diplomacy and Energy Policy, as well as Management, Energy and Climate Change. MGIMO and Oxford University also displayed interest in pursuing joint research projects and inviting leading experts from Oxford University to deliver lectures at MGIMO and vice versa.
