MGIMO Welcomes Apostolic Nuncio Celestino Migliore

March 10th, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation, Archbishop Celestino Migliore came to MGIMO. The representative of the Catholic Church was received by the University’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev and Professor Tatiana Zonova from the Department of Diplomacy.

Welcoming the guest, Andrey Baykov related to the Archbishop the history of the University and noted how popular the Italian language is among students. The Vatican envoy thanked MGIMO’s management for their hospitality and invited the Vice-Rector to visit the Pontifical University in Rome.

Egor Andreev spoke of the variety of programs offered by MGIMO and about the student exchange agreements the Institute has with Italian universities. Andrey Baykov presented the guest of honor with a gift on behalf of MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov. After the meeting, the Apostolic Nuncio was taken on a tour round the University and he visited the Museum of Rare Books. The envoy also gave a lecture to students on the priorities of the Vatican’s diplomacy and answered their questions.

Celestino Migliore conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome and expressed the desire to further develop relations between MGIMO and the Vatican.
