Lithuanian Ambassador Delivers Lecture at MGIMO

April 20th, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Russia Remigijus Motuzas came to MGIMO to meet with the University’s management and give a speech on the current opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Lithuania.

The Lithuanian delegation also comprised the Minister-Counselor of the Embassy Giedrius Galkauskas, the First Secretary Laimis Rubinskas and the Second Secretary Marijus Petrusonis. The guests were received by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and faculty members. During their meeting, the sides discussed a number of issues relating to Russian-Lithuanian relations, including cooperation in research and education, MGIMO’s experience teaching Lithuanian to students, and the importance of promoting Russian in Lithuanian universities.

During his lecture, Remigijus Motuzas related to the audience some elements of his biography, describing how he evolved from being a secondary school teacher to occupying such high positions as Minister of Education and Science (2004-2006), First Deputy Chancellor of the Government (2013-2015) and Ambassador. The guest also explored in his speech the possible directions the bilateral cooperation could take, highlighting the importance of the economic and cultural exchanges between Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region and examining the impact of current political events on the economic and social situation in the region.
