August 7th, an Agreement on Cooperation was concluded by MGIMO and the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in the framework of the Year of Ecology. The document was signed by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Svetlana Radchenko and by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Legal and Administrative Issues, Sergey Shitkov.
The parties noted that the Agreement is a significant step towards closer cooperation and joint research. Svetlana Radchenko underlined that increasing the number of environment-related subjects in MGIMO programs will allow students to feel confident, later on in their careers, in dealing with ecological issues and green projects.
Sergey Shitkov remarked than interest for environmental topics is increasing amongst MGIMO students, along with demand for courses looking into the impact of Green Politics on International Relations and the World Economy. The Vice-Rector also emphasized the fact that cooperating with the Ministry would enable MGIMO to gain a deep understanding of Russia’s environmental priorities and participate in environmental projects at both national and international levels.
The sides also agreed to hold joint events (seminars, presentations and round-tables) to present to MGIMO students employment opportunities in the Ministry.
