February 27th, MGIMO welcomed a delegation from the French Republican Party led by the National Assembly Deputy of the eleventh constituency for French residents overseas, Thierry Mariani.

The guests were greeted by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Research, Evgeny Kozhokin. During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects for cooperation between France and Russia after the French presidential elections.

The visiting delegation gave a lecture to students and faculty members of the University. Thierry Mariani presented Francois Fillon’s electoral manifesto and pointed out that he was the only candidate capable of improving relations with Russia.

The other lecturers also emphasized the importance of mending bilateral relations. Emmanuel Quidet, President of the Committee of support for Francois Fillon in Russia, noted that in a world where China and Southeast Asia are taking off and Africa is experiencing rapid growth; Russia is a key player in international affairs and France needs to become a strong force acting for world peace. To reach their goals, France and Russia need to develop their cooperation, regardless of Washington’s choices.
