MGIMO Rector Receives Chinese Ambassador Li Hui

June 16th, Anatoly Torkunov, the Rector of MGIMO University greeted the Chinese Ambassador to Russia, Li Hui.

Li Hui has been heading the Chinese Embassy in Moscow since 2009. Before that, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and also Ambassador to Kazakhstan. The Ambassador speaks fluent Russian.

During their interview, the parties discussed a myriad of issues related to academic cooperation, bilateral relations, current challenges in East Asia and burning international problems. Anatoly Torkunov also spoke about the events organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Revolution in Russia and dwelt on what Russian academics call the «Great Russian Revolution of 1917-1921».

MGIMO has a long-standing scientific and educational partnership with China and welcomed the first Chinese citizens to study within its walls as early as 1949. MGIMO currently has cooperation agreements with 12 Chinese universities, with which it operates student exchanges, organizes joint academic events and implements dual educational programs. In 2015, a joint Masters degree was set up by MGIMO in partnership with the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.
