Ambassador of India Pavan Kapoor at MGIMO

On May 17th, the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation Pavan Kapoor. The meeting was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Students’ Development and International Affairs Stanislav Surovtsev and the Vice-Rector for Science and Research Andrey Baykov.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in terms of educational programs, prospects for cooperation in research, academic exchanges with leading universities in India, and cooperation in culture. Moreover, agreements were reached on the Embassy’s support for MGIMO recruitment initiatives aimed at increasing the number of students from India.

The Rector told the Ambassador that, in the near future, a center for South Asian studies will be established at MGIMO University that will do applied research for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. He also mentioned the MGIMO initiative to resume the work of the Forum of Russian and Indian Research Centers after a hiatus due to the pandemic.

The parties also noted the significant potential for the development of cooperation between MGIMO University and India. The University has taught Hindi since 1954. It also has an Indian Fraternity, which actively participates in student activities and the life of the University. Moreover, in May, MGIMO University hosted a concert of the Indian school and the Color of India festival.
