MGIMO Hosts Open Lecture on Indonesian Pluralism

September 13th, the Indonesian Presidential Advisor on international religious questions, Sity Ruhaini Dzuhayatin, and the Adviser to the Indonesian Vice President Azyumardi Azra gave a talk at MGIMO. The event unfolded within the framework of the second forum dedicated to the «Interfaith and Media Dialogue of Russia and Indonesia».

The visiting delegation was led by the Director General for Information and Public Diplomacy of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Cecep Herawan, and included the Ambassador of Indonesia to Russia Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi.

Before the lecture, the guests had a meeting with the University’s Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin and the Director of the Center for Partnership of Civilizations Veniamin Popov, during which they discussed the opportunities to develop cooperation in education and to implement joint projects with MGIMO.

The lecturers described the ethno-cultural spanersity in Indonesia and spoke about the challenges linked to promoting tolerance and fighting religious extremism. The event was attended by members of the faculty and MGIMO students.
