April 2nd, MGIMO welcomed the Ambassador of Egypt to Russia, Ihab Nasr, who gave a talk in the framework of the opening of the Middle East week (2nd-7th April).
The University’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov greeted the guest, commented on the activities of the Middle East Club and spoke about MGIMO’s cooperation programs with universities from Arab countries.
Ihab Nasr remarked that this was his second visit to MGIMO this year and delivered a lecture to an audience of students and faculty members about the current situation in the Middle East and Egypt’s foreign policy. Describing the transformations the region is undergoing, the guest noted that his country has a special role to play in protecting the peoples of the Middle East.
The sides also hashed out the situation in Palestine, Libya and on the African continent. The students asked questions about Egypt’s initiatives to settle regional conflicts and about bilateral relations with Russia. After the lecture, the Ambassador thanked the audience and expressed the desire that these meetings become a regular occurrence.
