MGIMO at International Forum on Diplomatic Training Meeting

September 6th-8th, the 44th meeting of the Deans and Directors of Diplomatic Academies and Institutes of International Relations organized by the International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT) unfolded in Santiago, Chile. MGIMO was represented at the event by the Dean of the Public Administration Faculty, Henry Sardaryan.

The meeting was dedicated to reviewing the implementation status of the Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted in 2015 (to run until 2030) and its role in training civil servants and diplomats. The event gathered academics from 55 universities, representing 48 different countries, to discuss the different strategies used to include the new principles in the curricula, in order to reach the 2030 targets.

The Forum was kicked-off by the Foreign Minister of Chile, Heraldo Muñoz, and the Director General of the Chilean Diplomatic Academy, Juan Somavia. Henry Sardaryan gave a talk during a session dedicated to political integration and the role played by diplomats in ensuring sustainable development. He spoke of MGIMO’s experience in training diplomats and civil servants and underlined the importance of multi-disciplinarity.

MGIMO delegates also reached preliminary agreements for cooperation with universities based in Brazil, Spain and Chile. They also conducted negotiations with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) about launching dual MA programs. Last of all, they met with the leadership of the Institute of International Relations of the University of Chile to discuss next steps in their collaboration.
