MGIMO Receives Greek Ambassador

27 July 2017

July 27th, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov greeted the Greek Ambassador Andreas Friganas. Also attending the meeting on the University’s side was the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev.

The Rector spoke about the tradition of teaching Greek at the University and about Professor Marina Rytova’s significant contribution to MGIMO’s school of Greek. Today her work is pursued by a new generation of teachers at the Department of Central and South-Eastern European languages. The Greek club is also a very active student society within MGIMO.

MGIMO also actively cooperates with a number of Greek universities and has partnership agreements for student exchanges with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Andreas Friganas remarked that MGIMO’s initiatives had a positive impact on bilateral relations and promised to help develop relations with the University of Piraeus.

The Ambassador also suggested the Foreign Minister of Greece Nikos Kotzias, during his planned visit to Moscow this autumn, come to the University to give a talk to MGIMO students and teachers.
