MGIMO Expands Cooperation with Fletcher Diplomatic School

Mid-April, a delegation from MGIMO consisting of the University’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov and the Chair of the Department of International Law, Alexander Vylegzhanin, visited the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (USA).

A cooperation program between the two universities was set up at the start of this academic year, which comprises traditional exchanges, three video conferencing semester-long modules with the participation of students from both universities, research internships for postgraduate students, two conferences dedicated to expert discussions on the current state and prospects of Russian-American relations, joint scientific publishing and thematic seminars on the international legal regime of the Arctic and cyber-security. Two internationally recognized experts, professors Paul Berkman and Daniel Drezner co-supervise the cooperation program on the American side.

During their stay in Boston, Andrey Baykov and Alexander Vylegzhanin met with the management of Fletcher School and with its Rector Admiral James Stavridis, former Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Joint NATO Armed Forces in Europe, who expressed interest in creating a dual degree program in international relations and international law with MGIMO. The Russian delegation also gave an interview to the university TV channel, delivered a lecture to students and took part in a round table.
