MGIMO Rector Welcomes President of UN General Assembly Maria Espinosa

July 30th, the President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa came to MGIMO for a meeting with MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov.

The sides discussed the different interaction mechanisms between MGIMO and the organizations of the UN system, and spoke about the ways of deepening cooperation, facilitating student internships and employment. The Rector also described to the guest the Vitaly Churkin Moscow International Model UN, which is traditionally held at MGIMO University. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has been invited to take part in the opening of the model in the spring of 2020. In turn, Maria Espinosa spoke of her plans for preparing the celebration of the UN’s 75th anniversary.

The Director of the UN Information Center in Moscow Vladimir Kuznetsov, the Head of the UNESCO Department and Vice-President of the World Federation of UN Associations Alexei Borisov, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov, the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, the Second Secretary of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs D. Shimanchuk, and the Lecturer of the Department of Diplomacy Alexander Bobrov attended the meeting.

During her visit to MGIMO, Maria Espinosa was also taken on a tour of MGIMO’s Museum of Rare Books and its History Museum and met with student activists.
