March 23rd, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador of Austria to the Russian Federation Johannes Aigner.
During their meeting, Anatoly Torkunov described to the guest how MGIMO interacts with academic and scientific circles in Austria. MGIMO representatives regularly meet up with their Austrian colleagues during international and bilateral conferences and the University has a long-running cooperation agreement with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, which enables student exchanges (Erasmus+ program), and short-term internships for MA students of the European Studies Institute (ESI).
Ambassador Johannes Aigner, in turn, suggested MGIMO consider the possibility of collaborating with other universities in Austria, including the University of Vienna, one of the oldest higher education institutes in Europe. The parties also mulled over other areas of cooperation and MGIMO’s possible contribution to the work of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Moscow and the recently created language and educational center, the «Austrian House».
