MGIMO Among Top Russian Universities in EECA QS Ranking

MGIMO Among Top Russian Universities in EECA QS Ranking

17 October 2017

October 16th, the international rating agency QS published the fourth issue of its ranking of universities of «Emerging Europe and Central Asia» (EECA).

The idea behind the creation of this ranking was to take into account the specificities of higher education in CIS, Baltic as well as Central and Eastern European countries. This year, the final list includes 300 universities. Out of the 97 Russian universities considered for the ranking, 3 universities made it into the top 5 and 13 universities into the top 50.

The ranking methodology takes into account six traditional QS criteria and three specific parameters to compare the performance of universities: academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty to student ratio (15%), proportion of international students and international faculty (2.5% each), number of citations per published paper (5%). QS experts also look at the proportion of faculty staff with a PhD (5%), the number of papers published per faculty member (10%) and each University’s web impact, which is an estimation of its Internet resources (10%).

In the 2017/18 edition of the rating, MGIMO came 33rd on the general list and 9th among Russian Universities. Compared to last year, the University has made progress in a number of key areas including faculty to student ratio, proportion of international students and international faculty, employer and academic reputation.
