Minister of Education and Culture of Cyprus Visits MGIMO

October 21st, the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Costas Cadiz, came to MGIMO. The Minister headed a delegation of senior representatives from seven Cypriot universities.

The guests were received by MGIMO's Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Artem Malgin, who showed them around the University, related the history of MGIMO and spoke of its renowned alumni and Honorary Doctors. The delegation also visited the Scientific Library named after I.G.Tyulin and the Museums of rare books and of MGIMO history.

The delegation comprised the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Russia, George Kasoulides, the Head of the EU and International Affairs Office at the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture, Niki Papadopoulou-Papa, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Cyprus University of Technology, Christis Chrysostomou, the Vice-Chairman of the Open University of Cyprus, Charalambos Proundzos,  the Rector of Frederick University, George Demosthenous, the Rector of the European University of Cyprus, Kostas Gouliamos, the Rector of the University of Nicosia, Philippos Pouyioutas, the Rector of Neapolis University, Spyros Makridakis and the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus, Poutziouris Panikkos.

During a meeting with MGIMO Faculty members and students, Costas Cadiz spoke about the education system in Cyprus, its academic standards and its international outlook. He noted that the governments of Russia and Cyprus were to sign later on that day an agreement on the mutual recognition of diplomas, qualifications and degrees. The representatives of Cypriot universities described their institutions and expressed a keen interest in cooperation with MGIMO.
