MGIMO Rector Welcomes Austrian Ambassador Emil Brix

July 5th, Emil Brix, the Ambassador of Austria to Russia came to MGIMO for a meeting with MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov.

Emil Brix is an Austrian diplomat and historian who served as Ambassador to London from 2010 to 2015 and became after that Ambassador to Moscow. Recently, Emil Brix has been appointed Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. He has authored many academic works on Austrian and European history of the 19th and 20th centuries.

During their meeting, the parties discussed the dynamic of cooperation between MGIMO and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, and made plans to enhance their academic collaboration in energy, cyber security and international law. Anatoly Torkunov and Emil Brix spoke about how the curriculum of diplomatic programs has been updated, with a new focus put on social networks, the digital economy, migration and demography issues.

MGIMO Rector spoke about the new Center for International Information Security and Scientific-Technological Policy-Making at the University and the recently established Department of Demographic and Migration Policy.

MGIMO and the Vienna Diplomatic Academy have been actively cooperating for three years and have regular student exchanges for students at BA level and short-term internships for MA students.
