30 October 2018

October 29th, a delegation of British historians from the British Arts and Humanities Research Council came to MGIMO University.

The guests were invited to Moscow by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research in order to prepare for a joint round table, which is scheduled to take place next spring.

The visiting delegation comprised Professor Simon Dickson from UCL School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies, a historian of imperial Russia interested in the history of the Orthodox Church and in cultural relations between Russia and Britain in the 19th century, and Roey Sweet, Professor of Urban History at the University of Leicester.

Before coming to MGIMO, the delegation participated in a meeting at the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, which was attended by experts from MGIMO and the Institute of Europe and the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The sides hashed out organizational details linked to the upcoming round table.

At MGIMO, the visitors were greeted by the Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin, who spoke about the history of the University and its varied academic activities. The delegation was also taken on a visit of the Museum of rare books, where they discovered Russian and foreign documents dating back as far as the 13th century.
