MGIMO Delegation Pays Visit to Kingdom of Bahrain

March 28th to April 3rd, a delegation from MGIMO travelled to the Kingdom of Bahrain at the invitation of Hisham Bin Mohammed Al Jowder, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, with the support of the Russian Embassy.

The delegation was led by the University’s Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Educational work Igor Loginov and comprised the Head of the Department for Educational Work Stanislav Surovtsev as well as students specializing in Oriental studies. The goal of the visit was to deepen Russian-Bahraini cooperation.

The Russian guests were greeted by Bahrain’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Eman Faisal Janahi. During the meeting, the sides discussed the importance of cooperation between youth of the two countries. The delegation also received a warm welcome from the Russian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Vagif Garaev (1978 MGIMO graduate) who spoke to them about the cultural events organized to promote the Russian culture in Bahrain.

A round table was held at the University of Bahrain, during which the parties presented their institutions. Igor Loginov spoke about MGIMO’s history, its international outlook and about the youth policy of the University. The Vice-President of the University of Bahrain, Waheeb Essa Al-Naser, in turn, spoke of his University and took the guests on a tour of the campus. The sides signed an agreement on cooperation, which paves the way for student exchanges. The MGIMO delegation invited their hosts to Russia on a return visit and to the World Youth and Student Festival, which will be held in Sochi in October.

A reception by the petrochemical company of Bahrain GPIC led to discussions about the opportunities for MGIMO students to intern within the firm. During their stay in Bahrain, MGIMO representatives also participated in an intensive cultural program organized by their hosts.
