Afghan Ambassador Comes to MGIMO

November 25th, Afghanistan Week started at MGIMO. The event is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

During the opening ceremony, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Russia Mohammad Latif Bahand gave a talk. Other diplomats of the embassy attended the event.

Before the ceremony, the Ambassador met with the Head of the International Department, E. Andreev, who related to the guest the history of MGIMO and described its current development priorities. The sides also spoke about the students from Afghanistan studying at MGIMO and the fact that the Pashto and Dari languages are taught at the University.

The Ambassador delivered a lecture on Afghanistan, explaining the significance of this historical date and describing the country’s rich culture as well as its language specificities. The diplomat also expressed gratitude to MGIMO management and the University’s Indo-Iranian club for helping to organize Afghanistan Week.

After the ceremony, the guests were invited to the atrium of the new building to view an exhibition of traditional objects and taste some national dishes of Afghanistan.

The organizers of Afghanistan Week have planned a wide range of events dedicated to the independence of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which will take place throughout the week.
