MGIMO Holds ASEAN Week

December 7th, “ASEAN Week 2020 at MGIMO” began its work. The event comprises a series of scientific, educational, cultural and educational meetings co-organized by the MGIMO student club and the ASEAN Center and aims to disseminate information about the Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership. The first event of ASEAN Week was an online international conference “Russia and ASEAN: Regional Dynamics”.

The conference was launched by the Permanent Representative of Russia to ASEAN A. Ivanov, the Ambassador of Vietnam to Russia Ngo Duc Manh, the Ambassador of Brunei to Russia Haini Hashim and the Director of the ASEAN Center V. Sumsky.

The first session, moderated by V. Sumsky, was devoted to the strategic partnership between Russia and ASEAN. The second session was held in English and had for participants the representatives of different ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and Myanmar. The session was moderated by E.Koldunova, Associate Professor at the Department of Oriental Studies, Leading Expert of the ASEAN Center. The participants of the third session spoke about the current state of bilateral relations in times of Covid 19 between Russia and a number of countries in Southeast Asian. They also analysed the political and economic development of ASEAN member countries. The third session was moderated by V.Vershinina, Analyst at the ASEAN Center.

The conference was attended by representatives of Russian universities and think tanks (MGIMO, Moscow State University, HSE, Moscow State Linguistic University, the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kuban State University) and leading universities from ASEAN countries (University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University, Ateneo de Manila University, Srinakharinwirot University and others).
