September 29th, MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov greeted the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Russia Mohammad Al Jaber.
A.Torkunov described the different ways in which MGIMO collaborates with universities in the Middle East, spoke about the work of the Arabic Studies Department and the activities of the Arabic Language Center. The Rector underlined the need to go beyond student exchanges and to implement specific forms of cooperation with UAE universities.
The sides then discussed the prospects of creating joint master's programs. The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Mohammad Al Jaber mentioned the possibility of providing MGIMO graduate students with educational grants to study in the United Arab Emirates.
At the initiative of the UAE Embassy in Russia, a series of lectures will soon be held for MGIMO students studying Arabic. The National Day of the United Arab Emirates will also be celebrated at MGIMO with the support of the embassy.
The first Secretary of the Embassy, Head of the Political Department Mohammad Al Mansoori and the Second Secretary, the Head of the Department of Culture and Media also attended the meeting. On MGIMO’s side, the Vice-Rector for General Affairs A.Malgin and the Head of the Rector's Office Kh.Ulugova participated in the event.
At the end of the meeting, Mohammad Al Jaber was taken on a tour of MGIMO and its new building, and dropped in to a few Arabic classes which were unfolding in the University.
