The President of Azerbaijan Meets with MGIMO Rector

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev (MGIMO graduate, class of 1982) met with the University’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov. During the meeting, they discussed topics related to cooperation in education between Russia and Azerbaijan and reviewed the agenda of the Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

The sides mulled over the opportunities for academic, cultural and educational collaboration between MGIMO, Russian research institutes and Azerbaijani experts. In particular, they contemplated the possibility of organizing a special meeting in «club format» to discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation and jointly work on regional issues. The Valdai Club was said to illustrate well this type of interaction.

President Ilham Aliyev brought up the question of creating a branch of MGIMO University in Baku and gave instructions to the Country’s Department of Education in view of the realization of this project.

The meeting was also attended by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin and the Head of the International Complex Problems of Natural Resources Use and Ecology Department of MGIMO University Ruslan Aliyev.
