MGIMO Welcomes Iraqi Foreign Minister

October 25th, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Ibrahim al-Jaafari came to MGIMO for a meeting with the University’s Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin and to deliver a lecture in Arabic to students of the University.

The Vice-Rector introduced the guest to an audience of students and members of the faculty, noting that Ibrahim al-Jaafari served his country as Prime Minister from 2005 to 2006 and has been Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2014. Evgeny Kozhokin remarked that it is a great honor for MGIMO University to receive such an eminent guest.

The Foreign Minister spoke in his lecture about the history of his country, its geopolitical, social and cultural specificities today and in the past. The guest also shared his impressions about the difficult political situation in the country resulting from the September 25th referendum on the independence of the autonomous Kurdistan Region.

After his talk, Ibrahim al-Jaafari took questions from the audience and was taken on a visit of the University’s scientific library named after Ivan Tyulin and to the museum of rare books.
