MGIMO Rector Signs Cooperation Agreement with OSCE Academy in Bishkek

11 June 2019

June 11th, Ambassador Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the OSCE Academy in Kyrgyzstan came to MGIMO. During the visit, the Ambassador and MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov signed a cooperation agreement between the two universities.

Also attending were MGIMO’s Vice-Rector Vladimir Morozov, the Professor of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics Elina Sydorenko, and the Deputy Head of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek.

MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov greeted the guest and underlined the importance of academic contacts in international relations today. The sides signed an agreement allowing for cooperation to develop in four directions: student exchanges and placements, exchanges of faculty members specialized in economics, law, security studies and international relations, setting up joint research programs and experience-sharing through joint publications and interaction at scientific events.

During the conversation, Pierre von Arx described the activities of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, founded in 2002 and remarked that the Academy offers two masters programs for students from Central Asia, Afghanistan and Mongolia. The selection process is extremely tough and demand is high to study at the Academy, which is the only educational institution of this sort in the OSCE system.

Before parting, the sides decided how they would implement the agreement and
Pierre von Arx thanked the MGIMO team for their warm welcome, all the while expressing interest in delivering a lecture at MGIMO in the future.
