MGIMO Arctic Student Research Club was established in 2015 at the International Energy Policy and Diplomacy Institute (MIEP) of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation. The establishment of the Arctic Club was initiated by the participants of the First Moscow Youth Model Arctic Council at MGIMO-University (April 7-8, 2015).
This initiative was recorded in the Declaration adopted by the participants and was approved by the Rector of MGIMO-University, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Torkunov and Director of the International Energy Policy and Diplomacy Institute (MIEP MGIMO), Valery Salygin.
The most important and major events organized by the Arctic Club were: Moscow International Youth Model Arctic Council (MAC-2016, MAC-2017 and MAC-2018), International Student Week Arctic MGIMO (ISAW-2018, ISAW-2019) and the International Model of the Barents Council / Euro-Arctic Council (IMBEAC- 2017). These conferences were held with the support of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and MGIMO Development Fund. In 2016 and 2018 representatives of the club took part in the International Model Arctic Council at the University of Fairbanks, Alaska, USA, and International Model Arctic Council MAC Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland, organized under the auspices of the Arctic Council.
The MGIMO Arctic Student Research Club is a student, self-governing, non-profit association operating in accordance with the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Civil Code of the Russian Federation of November 30, 1994, Federal Law No.51, Federal Law of May 19, 1995 No. 82 “On Public Associations”, other laws of the Russian Federation, the Charter of MGIMO-University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and other legal documents.
