The School of International Management and Business Administration was founded in 1992 when Russia began to introduce market economy principles, attract foreign investments and Russian companies first entered global markets.
For almost 30 years the School has been training highly qualified international managers to work in Russia and abroad. From the first day of its existence the two-tier education system in compliance with international business education standards has been applied.
Current curriculum combines both theoretical and applied courses: management, marketing, strategy, production, HR, finance, international commerce, transport and logistics, economic theory, mathematics, accounting, international economic relations, international banking.
Students study at least two European languages, some take three or more. Languages are being taught in the context of international business negotiations and global companies’ management.
MGIMO Master’s programs in management are available upon graduation from the Bachelor’s program. Some students choose partner programs which allow to study abroad in leading universities in the France, Italy, UK, Germany, China, Mexico and other countries.
There is always stable and strong demand for our graduates in Russia and abroad. They work in Lukoil, Wimm Bill Dann, Raiffeisenbank, Renault, PricewhaterhouseCoopers, Ernst&Young, Procter&Gamble, Pernod Ricard, BSGV, City Bank, L’Oreal, KPMG, Peugeot Citroen, Auchan, run private businesses or hold top positions in federal and regional authorities of Russia.
The School offers its programs on commercial basis only, which allows to attract top professors from MGIMO and other universities as well as business practitioners.
From its foundation and for 29 years of its existence the faculty was headed by Vladimir Shitov, Honored Higher School Educator of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Science (Economics), Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Science of Higher School.
Since April 2021 the faculty is being lead by a new Dean – Vladimir Shapovalov, 1996 alumni, PhD in Economics. Mr. Shapovalov has over 25 of experience in senior management positions in investment companies, commercial banks and public organizations including Head of Risk Management at Deutsche Bank, Vice President of Uralsib, member of the Executive Board of Renaissance Capital group. He also headed a State investment attraction agency and worked at the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
For many years Mr. Shapovalov has been teaching at MGIMO courses — Financial Regulation of Global Politics and Country Risks for Transnational Business.
Prominent MGIMO professors such as Prof. Eduard Babin, Prof. Gennadiy Kotov, Dr. Nikolay Kotlyarov, Dr. Alla Dementyeva, Prof. Nataliya Zagrebelnaya have woked as Deputy Deans. Current Deputy Deans are Dr. Anastasiya Sheveleva, Professor of the Department of Management and Marketing, and Dr. Tatiana Isachenko, Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations and External Economic Relations.
