On June 16th 2014 the MGIMO Academic Board decided to create a specialised Department of Commerce and Trade Regulation of the Moscow World Trade Center within the School of Applied Economics and Commerce. Since then, the Department has been headed by the Director General of OJSC World Trade Center Vladimir Salamatov. The Department was created to systematise teaching practices and research in international trade and regulation. This Department specialises in international commerce.
All the lecturers of the Department have a wide experience in international trade, being the employees of the Moscow World Trade Center. Moreover, they have considerable experience in teaching and research. The Department does several projects, including the one with World Trade Center on «Russia and the WTO», which aims at providing analysis and information on the current trends in integration of states in the world economic systems. The World Trade Center also trains and consults the state officials and businessmen from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, regularly organises conferences, seminars, workshops on the relevant topics.
The Department teaches such courses as «Commerce in the Context of the WTO», «Regional Agreements and Their Role in the Modern International Economic Relations», «International Regulation of Intellectual Property», «Business Negotiations», «Transnational Business Purchase Transactions», «Customs Regulation and Procedure», «Examination and Appreciation of Goods», «Franchising» and others. They are studied at BA, MA and MBA programmes. All the courses are developed in the context of the latest trends in higher education and adapted for the specific programmes and the level of students.
