The first museum of history of MGIMO was founded in 1984, the year of the 40th anniversary of the Institute.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the museum found a new life when on September 1, 2001, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the renewed exposition was ceremonially opened. This event was preceded by intensive preparatory work on the search for photodocumentary materials reflecting the history of formation and development of the Institute.
