November 20th-22nd, the XIII Congress «Professional Education, Science and Innovation in the XXI century» unfolded in St. Petersburg. MGIMO was represented at the forum by its Vice-Rector A. Baykov and the Head of the Department of Science Policy P. Kasatkin.
On the first day of the Congress, A. Baykov gave a talk during the plenary session, sharing with the audience his insights on the internationalization of the educational process in higher education. In the afternoon, the MGIMO delegation contributed to the work of a round table on the certification of researchers, and A. Baykov presented MGIMO’s two-year experience developing its own model for awarding degrees and explained the different challenges faced during the implementation of the project, including regulatory barriers.
The participants of the congress exchanged views on a myriad of issues including the development and prospects for the harmonization of the regulatory framework for awarding academic degrees, the pilot project with federal executive authorities and the creation of a consultative council of universities and scientific organizations which have been granted the right to independently award academic qualifications.
The round table gathered representatives of all educational and scientific organizations, which are entitled to independently award degrees.
