MGIMO at World Peace Forum in Beijing

June 24th–25th, the 6th World Peace Forum, themed on «Challenges to International Security: Joint Efforts, Responsibility and Reform», took place in Beijing.

The event brought together over 200 distinguished guests, from the whole world including former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the President of the Russian International Affairs Council Igor Ivanov, the former Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr, the former American Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel and former foreign ministers of the Republic of Korea, Iran, Turkey and others.

MGIMO was represented at the event by the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov and the Senior Researcher at the Center for East Asian and Shanghai Cooperation Organization Studies, Igor Denisov. On the Chinese side, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress Arken Imirbaki, the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Zhang Yesui and the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress Fu Ying, all addressed the audience.

Andrey Baykov gave a talk dedicated to «Dialectics of Peace and Security and Russian Approaches to Ensuring International Stability» and made a presentation on «Relations between Russia and the West through Structural Theory». Igor Denisov spoke about the nature of the Russian-Chinese strategic partnership during a joint panel discussion of the Russian International Affairs Council and Tsinghua University and presented a report on «The new round of the Korean crisis and Russia’s position».
